Tongue removal

From: £18.00 Per M^2 (Tongue removal price now including the cleaning of the outer edge grooveside).

When a parquet floor is originally fitted with bitumen, the bitumen usually runs in to the T&G and on to the edges. The bitumen sets, then over the years, dust and dirt fall in between the gaps and also sets.

The dirt and bitumen stuck to the T&G and edges makes it very difficult to get a flush fit of the parquet when it is re-laid.

Even when the T&G are cleaned out, it is impossible to remove all traces of bitumen and dirt.

You will find when re-laying a reclaimed T&G parquet floor (cleaned or not), you’ll require the use of filler to close the gaps. Over time, with heat and vibration, this filler will shrink, fall out and disintegrate.

To alleviate having to fill these gaps, the best course of action is to remove the tongue.

Pre preparation:

To ensure the tongue is removed correctly we would first need to clean the groove side outer edge, prior to removal the tongue. This allows the block to pass smoothly down the machine.

The groove side outer edge cleaning is now included in the tongue removal price per sq meter.

If you require the outer ends cleaning, please contact us for a quote.

As you will appreciate, each batch of parquet flooring sent to us for cleaning does differ. Therefore, if your parquet edges require excessive cleaning, the price may increase.

When removing the tongue, we do not alter the width of the actual wooden block, nor do we remove the groove profile.
